Hold Your Head Up

written and produced by Rod Argent and Chris White

Here’s a British classic rock tune from ’72, taken from the Argent

record All Together Now. It’s also another birthday tribute, as band

founder Rod Argent has just yesterday turned 76, as of my making

this page. (Happy Birthday, RA!!) Like lots and lots of acts from the

’60s and ’70s, he recorded classic rock with a psychedelic twist.

“Hold Your Head Up,” for example, boasts a lovely trippy keyboard riff and solo. Props as well to Rod, who apparently showed up to record the song despite being ill at the time. Before Argent, he also founded The Zombies, who enjoyed modest success in the ’60s. This is one and only Argent song I know—it charted in five countries, just barely cracking the top 5 in three of them—though I know the Zombies’ hits a bit better. I’m sure I’ll be including one or two of them as well before much longer.

Have notes to add? Let me know!

Lyrics

And if it’s bad, don’t let it Get you down, you can take it And if it hurts, don’t let them See you cry, you can make it Hold your head up, woman Hold your head up, woman Hold your head up, woman Hold your head high x1 And if they stare, just let them Burn their eyes on you moving And if they shout, don’t let it Change a thing that you’re doing x2 Hold your head up Hold your head up Hold your head up Hold your head up x2 Hold your head up / x2 x1 Hold your head up, woman x6
