I’m Yours
JASON MRAZ
written by Jason Mraz
produced by Martin Terefe
I’m making this page on June the 24th, 2021, the day after the
44th birthday of Jason Thomas Mraz. Happy Birthday, JM!!
Jason’s a native of Mechanicsville, Virginia, USA, and heritage-wise
is Czech and Slovakian—Mraz is Czech for the word “frost.” The origins of his career lie in San Diego, CA, in the tail end of the 20th century, where and when he relocated, became a roadie and starting writing and demoing songs. He made a couple independent, pre-record contract recordings he released himself from 1999-2001. Eventually, he scored a deal with WEA division Elektra Entertainment Group (the ‘E’ in ‘WEA’). Fall ’02 brought out his debut album, Waiting For My Rocket To Come.
Album two, from summer ’05, was a play on the letters in his last name: Mr. A-Z, issued by Atlantic Records (the ‘A’ in ‘WEA’), as have been most of the rest of his albums since, as the year before, Jason’s label Elektra was consolidated into Atlantic. Another three years later, Jason’s worldwide breakthough occurred, with the release and impact of album three, 2008’s We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.
The song catalogued on this page is WSWDWST’s leading single, “I’m Yours.” This is actually a slightly older song, written in ’04, demoed in ’05, and released in acoustic form as something of a bonus track on the Mr. A-Z record’s accompanying extended play, which helped promote it. But as Jason snuck the song into his live set, he realized just how attached audiences had grown to it. They loved the song, so Jason decided to record an updated version, and make it sort of the “spine” of the WSWDWST album.
The song has since become Jason’s biggest hit and highest commercially charting single since, as well as his sole #1—in New Zealand, of all markets. Too, along with fellow WSWDWST singles “Make It Mine” and “Lucky” (with Colbie Caillat), it boosted the album to triple platinum status.
P.S. In my numbering system, when I reached #1,950, I began taking songs from the corresponding years and using them for those song numbers. These songs are particularly big, quintessential, and/or era-defining songs from their respective years. I.e., song #1,950 is a quintessential song from the year 1950, #1,951 was a song from 1951, etc. And being from 2008, “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz is #2,008.
P.P.S. And writing out that scatting and trying to get it as detailed and accurate as I could possibly muster was certainly a lot of fun... now I have a headache. Thanks, Jase. (Just kidding.)
Have notes to add? Let me know!

Lyrics
Well, you done done me, and you bet I felt it / I tried to be chill, but you’re so hot that I melted / I fell right through the cracks / Now I’m trying to get back / Before the cool done run out, I’ll be giving it my bestest / And nothing’s gonna stop me but divine intervention / I reckon it’s again my turn / To win some or learn some / But I won’t hesitate, no more, no more / It cannot wait, I’m yours / (Hey, hey) / Well, open up your mind and see like me / Open up your plans and damn, you’re free / And look into your heart, and you’ll find / Love, love, love, and love / Listen to the music of the moment, people, dance and sing / We’re just one big family / And it’s our god-forsaken right to be loved / Loved, loved, loved, loved / So I won’t hesitate, no more, no more / It cannot wait, I’m sure / There’s no need to complicate, our time is short / This is our fate, I’m yours / Dooj, doo-doo dooja, but dooja dooja-doo-doo / But do you want to come a, a-scooch on over closer, dear / And I will nibble your ear / Zoo-ta buh-boh-bo-b-bum / Whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohhh-wh-whoa, uh-huh, mm-hmmm / I’ve been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror / And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer / But my breath fogged up the glass / And so I drew a new face and I laughed / I guess what I’ll be saying is there ain’t no better reason / To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons / It’s what we aim to do / Our name is our virtue / x1 / (I won’t hesitate) Well, open up your mind and see like me / (No more, no more) Open up your plans and damn, you’re free / (It cannot wait) Look into your heart and you’ll find that / (I’m sure) The sky is yours / (Please don’t complicate) So please don’t, please don’t, please don’t / (Our time is short) There’s no need to complicate, ’cause our time is short / (This is our fate) This will, this will, this is our fate, I’m yours-ahhh! / Brrrrrr-ah-boh-mm-duh-bah-boh-mm day / Dedz, doo-dooja-doo-dooja-doo-doo-noo-d-doo-doo / Mm-mmmm-mm-mm-mm / Ohhh, I’m yours / Ohhh-ohhh, I’m yours, ohhh, whoa / Baby, do believe I’m yours / You best believe, you best believe, I’m yours / Mm-hm
