AUTOHEART

written by Autoheart

I happened upon this song when I was looking for soundtrack

material for a particular new series of videos for my YT channel.

However, when you post videos on YT as a mere fan, using material

to which you don’t own the rights, you risk having the videos

blocked or taken down, or having strikes applied to your account.

The good news is, it doesn’t happen nearly often enough to consider it a fatal risk to your social media. But it does happen. Although, while not to justify copyright infringement in any such way, one hypothetical way you might get around such a situation—might—is to give your songs something of an audio treatment as I took to doing years ago.

This month-by-month series of videos I began making for my channel were montages of page-a-day calendar pages I scanned into my system. I wanted a January-themed song for the first of these such videos (and one that comes right to mind is The Goo Goo Dolls’ “January Friend” from the Dizzy Up The Girl album. But I guess I either didn’t think of that one at the time, or determined it was less than suitable for this particular video. If I were to make more today, I’d probably use a song like “New Year’s Day” by U2), and went into iTunes to search for one. “January,” by Autoheart—a British group I’d never heard of at the moment—popped up, and I liked and purchased it. So I started with the pages belonging to January 1st through 31st, threw them together in my video editing program, gave this song the treatment in my audio editing program—even though the word and name of the month doesn’t appear anywhere in the song’s lyrics—and used it as the video’s soundtrack.

Autoheart’s an indie-pop band from London, whose Wikipedia page has a decent body of info on them. That seems to be more than can be said for their website, though the site has one thing the Wiki doesn’t: the track listings on their albums. “January” was placed on the band’s 2013 album Punch, track 9. Punch dropped in the summer of 2013. Four summers later, a double-CD special edition of the album followed. And this song’s a good example of how the word “Classic” in my site name can be defined in different ways, as this song’s not really that old as of making this entry. A few songs I’ve catalogued thus far have come close, but “January” by Autoheart is in fact the first song I’ve included in The List, and CSR, from the 21st century. Hey, even if it’s not really “Classic” now, it will be someday.

Have notes to add? Let me know!

Lyrics

Don’t fret, it’s not worth it I’ll fight it, I’ll fight this disease Silence, hereafter It’s not over, not over yet Why on Earth did you call Me last night, after all That you said the night before That was so uncalled for You broke my heart You broke my heart You got me in a headlock I’m wrestling, grappling free Once more, with feeling I’ll just look at the mess we are in x1 Did you want me to feel separated or elevated? / It is tragic how I am suffering and you are not at all Did you want me to feel motivated or reinstated? I slam my head against that wall x1 You broke my heart You broke my heart Don’t fret, it’s not worth it I’ll fight it, I’ll fight this disease
