Little Lies

written by Christine McVie and Eddy Quintela

produced by Lindsey Buckingham and Richard Dashut

Fleetwood Mac is an example of a band whom we’d have to invent

if they didn’t exist. A five-piece American/British hybrid, this

quintet—who is as legendary as the Rumours album they dropped

in 1977—is now over half a century old. They took their name after

those of its founding members: Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie. Added to the roster in the early-mid-’70s, just in time for the ’75 self-titled hit album, were guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, and young hottie and sultry-voiced Stevie Nicks, destined to be a superstar with those looks and that charisma. Stevie joined the others in writing numerous hits for the band over the next decade and a half, during which she also branched off into her own almost as successful solo career. Though I must say, while Stevie may be the most memorable member, the hot attraction and the sex appeal of the band, to my own personal taste, she holds no candles to the angel-faced Brit beauty Christine McVie. With her heavenly soulful voice and equally incomparable songwriting talent—both of which shone through in the production and final cuts—Chrissie’s got my vote for being both the precious heart and sex appeal in the band. This selection, “Little Lies,” is arguably the biggest hit off 1987’s Tango In The Night—in possible contention only (I’d say) with the ultra-dreamy “Everywhere.” The band transitioned in sound smoothly and effortlessly from the ’70s into the ’80s. It helped immensely that their signature sound remains timeless.

Lyrics

If I could turn the page In time then I’d rearrange Just a day or two Close my, close my, close my eyes / But I couldn’t find a way So I’ll settle for one day To believe in you Tell me, tell me, tell me lies Tell me lies Tell me sweet little lies / (Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies) Oh, no, no you can’t disguise (You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise) Tell me lies Tell me sweet little lies Although I’m not making plans I hope that you understand There’s a reason why Close your, close your, close your eyes No more broken hearts We’re better off apart / Let’s give it a try Tell me, tell me, tell me lies x1 / x1 Tell me lies Tell me sweet little lies / (Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies) Oh, no, no you can’t disguise (You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise) x1 Tell me lies Tell me sweet little lies / (Tell me, tell me lies)
