Well, and here we go. When the 21st century opened, Roxette were still going strong outside North America, and supported by their still international fanbase. They released their seventh full album in 2001, and prepared to release two new greatest hits compilations as companions to one another in ’02 and ’03. They planned to record and release four new songs on the compilations as well as all the classic hit material. But Roxette’s female half, Marie Fredriksson, suffered a trauma on her own 9/11: September 11th, 2002. She found herself afflicted with a brain tumor. Her 2019 death to the cancer is a tragedy Roxette fans cope with to this day, but that of course means she survived the 2002 attack. She put out a 2004 solo album celebrating the second chance life had given her. After a rest, Marie returned in 2006 with a new Swedish album, and teamed back up with Per for a reunion. Per had written some new songs for them to record together as Roxette. Two were recorded in the summer of ’06 for the upcoming milestone of their career. 2006 was Roxette’s 20th anniversary. EMI put out a new compilation of their 20 greatest songs—including the two newly recorded that summer, “One Wish” and “Reveal”—and as well a 4-disc box set—The RoxBox—of hits, b-sides, demos and other fun stuff.
This particular medley did not make the Box, but was released as its own single, as well as the b-side of the “One Wish” single. It’s an upbeat, high-energy mix of the band’s six biggest international hits, from the late ’80s and early ’90s, in the following order: (1) “The Look,” (2) “Joyride,” (3) “Listen To Your Heart,” (4) “Dangerous,” (5) “It Must Have Been Love” and (6) “Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave).” Five of the six were sped up for this medley; the only one slowed down to accommodate the medleyʼs tempo was “Dangerous.” While providing the lyrics is less than necessary due to inclusion of the original songs’ lyrics, I’m going to do it anyway, just for fun. The exclaimed “Rox-ette!” at the beginning comes from the studio/album version of “Joyride.”

Lyrics
Rox-ette! / 1-2-3-4! / Walking like a man, hitting like a hammer / She’s a juvenile scam, never was a quitter / Tasty like a raindrop, she’s got the look / Heavenly bound, ’cause heaven’s got a number / When she’s spinning me around, kissing is a colour / Her loving is a wild dog, she’s got the look / She’s got the look (a-she’s got the look) / She’s got the look (a-she’s got the look) / What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue / When everything I’ll ever do I’ll do for you / And I go la la la la la / She’s got the look / C’mon, join the Joyride, everybody! Get your tickets here! Right this way! / She says hello, you fool, I love you / C’mon, join the Joyride / Join the Joyride / She says hello, you fool, I love you / C’mon, join the Joyride / Be a Joyrider / (Be a Joyrider) / I know there’s something in the wake of your smile / I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yeah / You built a love, but that love falls apart / Your little piece of heaven turns too dark / Listen to your heart, when he’s calling for you / Listen to your heart, there’s nothing else you can do / I don’t know where you’re going, and I don’t know why / But listen to your heart, before, you tell him goodbye / Hold on tight / You know she’s a little bit dangerous / She’s got what it takes to make ends meet / The eyes of a lover that hit like heat / You know she’s a little bit dangerous / Oooh, just a little bit dangerous / Lay a whisper on my pillow / Leave the winter on the ground / I wake up lonely, there’s air of silence / In the bedroom and all around / Touch me now, I close my eyes / And dream away / It must have been love, but it’s over now / It must have been good, but I lost it somehow / It must have been love, but it’s over now / From the moment we touched, ’til the time had run out / Yeah, it must have been love, but it’s over now / It was all that I wanted, now I’m living without / It must have been love, but it’s over now / It’s where the water flows / It’s where the wind blows / Every time I see you, oh, I try to hide away / But when we meet it seems I can’t let go / Every time you leave the room I feel I’m fading like a flower / Every time I see you, oh, I try to hide away / But when we meet it seems I can’t let go / Every time you leave the room I feel I’m fading like a flower / Na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na na na, she’s got the look / She goes / Na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na na na, she’s got the look / She’s got the look / She goes / Na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na na na, she’s got the look / She’s got the look / She goes / Na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na, na na na na na / Na na na na na na na na, she’s got the look / She’s got the look
